Finding the Path: Episode 5 of The Keeper of the Dead Saga Greeting Geeks! Finding the path is the next move in our adventurers’ journey. It’s not a clear move forward after running into a giant spider nest but our adventurers persevere. They find new complexities await them at the base of the mountains. Each episode takes them closer to the final dangers they will face. The road is not clear and easy; instead, it is covered with dead and decaying forest but also some more dangerous and sentient creatures. As the new player to pen and paper role playing campaigns, I make sure to

Greetings Fellow Adventurers! On this holiest of geeky holidays, International Tabletop Day, The Geek Embassy welcomes you to follow us on a Pathfinder role play adventure. Isabela, Mark, Dante and I will take our newly rolled characters on an adventure hand crafted for us by Evan Graham. In today’s intro video, we share with you our character backstories, and a few hints about the story we will be exploring. This campaign will be a journey in exploration and learning for me. This is my first ever pen and paper role play experience. I’ve wanted to jump into a true role playing game since I started
I’ve been playing RPGs for most of my life. Dungeons & Dragons (2e, 3e, 3.5e, & 5e), Vampire: The Masquerade, Werewolf: The Apocalypse, Unknown Armies, Shadowrun and a few others that I’m sure I forgot. I dabbled in Shadowrun in college and just started really picking it up again when I moved to Portland two years ago. I started out in Shadowrun like I do with most other RPGs, as their fighter class. I do this for two reasons. (1) Because it doesn’t take much thought or talent to play a run-of-the-mill, gets-the-job-done, won’t-entirely-mess-things-up fighter: point yourself in the direction of things that need killing,
Generally, I try not to think about episodes in terms of favorites but I have to confess that our guest this week has already become a favorite. Nika Harper joins us from the Geek & Sundry vlog channel. Her new show, Story Mode, combines game play and story telling – two of the things we love the most about gaming here at Game on Girl! We talk about creative inspiration, game & geek culture, and a host of other fabulous topics. We WRaP about our latest geeky passions this week, talking about what we are Watching, Reading, and Playing. What are your latest geeky interests? Passions? Obsessions? Check it

What recommendations do you have for the new year? Until next time, game on! Regina & Rhonda Regina McMenomy Regina is the founder and lead ambassador of The Geek Embassy. Before I get to the write up for this week’s episode, I’d just like to take a moment and send some positive thoughts to the people of Boston. The bombings after the Boston Marathon were horrific. If you are able, please consider donating blood in your city. Find a Red Cross center near you. This week we interview married gamers, LARPers, and game industry vets Brandes and Rabbit. They share some really fantastic stories of acceptance and engagement from their LARPing community. To learn more about the LARPs they participate in, check out Rule of 3 Productions, the game they run, Dust to Dust, and
Returning to our series discussing gaming basics, we talk about all you’d ever want to know about RPGs or Role Playing Games. We talk about the connections between tabletop and digital games, terms, and how and why we find this genre to be so compelling. Check it out to catch up on the terms we often use and share it with your non-gaming friends and family. Maybe this will get them to join you in a campaign. It occurred to me while speaking with Regina last week that I’ve never discussed what type of gamer I am by her codification on this site. Regina and Rhonda have their views on what type of gamer I am, and you can find those on episode 5 of the Game On Girl podcast. I would like to take a stab at it now. I’ll skip to the end right here. I believe I am all three in pretty equal measure. Here’s why: As a Self Player I tend to create avatars that have long hair and some form of facial hair like I do.
