A Gigawatt Jukebox themed playlist From Rockabilly to Reggae, Movie Scores to Soul, our Gigawatt Jukebox is out of control.  In true geek style, we submit a never-ending playlist that is not concerned with genre, popularity, or album release date.   It’s happened to everyone at some point: the experience of lost time.  You’ll be doing something routine, when you suddenly snap out of it.  Without realizing it, you just spent a few minutes in a trance.  Without knowing it, you were almost hypnotized by a song.  Every song tells a story, but some have the power to lure you like a Siren from Greek mythology.  ItRead More →

october

We embraced the season for October’s hangout and talked about our favorite horror and suspense films. The basics are covered like our favorites but we also talk about our history with suspense and horror films, branch off into TV show, and briefly mention zombies and that show that premieres in a few weeks. Here are the questions we considered: What was your first horror/suspense movie? What movie scares you? What novel scared you? What suspense/horror movie made you laugh? What is your all time favorite suspense/horror movie? Are there horror/suspense movies that belong canon? We do a horror themed geek and tell but I just couldn’tRead More →

star trek

A Gigawatt Jukebox themed playlist From Rockabilly to Reggae, Movie Scores to Soul, our Gigawatt Jukebox is out of control.  In true geek style, we submit a never-ending playlist that is not concerned with genre, popularity, or album release date.   Since 1966, Star Trek has entertained generations of fans with its space adventures into the future.  Pop culture has never been the same.  With such influence, it is no surprise that Star Trek’s television and movie presence would make its way into the music industry as well.  From its cast members down to its everyday fans, music has been taken where no man has gone before.Read More →

star trek

Admit it, you’re a Trekkie. You’ve seen Star Trek Beyond, okaym maybe more than once, and now you’re jonesing for more.  You’ve busted out your DVDs of the previous movies. You’ve put on your headset and tried the latest Star Trek Online: Agents of Yesterday.  You’ve even changed your cell phone notification to that communicator beeping sound.  Somehow this is still not enough.  It’s time to warp into action with a galactically cool game night. The Games There are a few choices, but the number one choice is clear (like his blue blue eyes):  Star Trek Catan.  Settle where no man has gone before. ForRead More →

movie

Greetings,  Geeks! Rhonda and I saw two very different movies for June. Rhonda saw Central Intelligence and I saw Free State of Jones. We compare notes about the movies and how we go about choosing movies to see. Central Intelligence is a comedy starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. It is a comedy of errors of sorts where two high school friends reconnect and shenanigans ensue. Free State of Jones is  drama based on real life events that took place during the United States civil war. It stars Matthew McConaughey as Newton Knight who led a group of rebels to secede from the Confederacy. ThisRead More →

For our June LIVE Hangout, we talked about villains: the ones you love to hate and hate to love. What makes them relate-able or hate-able? Rhonda, Mark, Isabela, and I had a great time chatting about our favorite villains from movies, TV, books, and video games. We also had a wildcard category which Rhonda won hands down. We start the discussion determining which villains we think are canon, ones that set the standard for the rest. Included are some of the greats of modern mythology: Darth Vader, Voldemort, and the Wicked Witch of the West. Listen and tell us what you think of our selectionsRead More →

Movie – Captain America: Civil War This month, Rhonda and I discuss the latest Avengers movie, Captain America: Civil War. Although billed as a Captain America movie, it is an Avengers-themed extravaganza of action and internal conflict as our heroes navigate how they operate as a superhero crime-fighting team now exposed to public criticism. Listen to hear us discuss the characters, storytelling approaches, and action in this summer blockbuster. We also give some streaming recommendations to help fill your vacation downtime. Got a show or some movies you are binge watching this summer? Let us know in the comments. Keep an eye out for our summerRead More →

welcome

Hi there! I’m Mark. I want to introduce myself and give you my credentials. In short, what makes me qualified to be an ambassador on the Geek Embassy. Like most people, my interests are varied and I have several hobbies that I can talk about. Let me walk you through what sort of things you’ll most likely be seeing from me in the future. My first love growing up was music. The first LP that I ever received was “Destroyer” by Kiss at the tender age of 5. It was in my Easter basket of all things! I still haven’t figured out if this was an incrediblyRead More →
